A click stream is a series of page views on a website made by a visitor during his or her visit. Click stream analysis or path analysis can tell you how the visitors navigate your website. For example, what is the most typical entry page on your website? If most visitors start on your home page, what do they typically do next? The problem with path analysis is that there are often an almost infinite number of possible paths a visitor can choose during his or her visit. Hence, analyzing one particular path will often result in very small statistical bases. The longer the analyzed path is, the smaller the base becomes. As such, path analysis tends to be most effective when conducted on click stream fragments including only 2 or 3 page views.
